Site History

My love for cars and racing started when I was young – when I finally got on the web in college I knew I wanted to someday design my own “ascMcLaren brochure” and have my own website. With a copy of some design software from a friend in 1995 I’ve been designing ever since. My first attempt at a website was something I did using Netscape’s web design software. It was crappy but hey it was a start! I was using a friends Drexel University account for space and the url was real long and impossible to remember; but it was free and I was finally on the web. That long goofy url actually still re-directs to mikemartinelli.com to this day!

Original Site:

Once I started to learn HTML and the basics I started to put together a real site. It took a while but I finally got it looking good and was able to go live. At the time, “frames” were “in” so the original site was a frames page. It felt good to be up with a “real site”. Everyone loved the site and the car, things were great! As the car progressed, I also started to think of new ideas for the site, but updating everything was a pain so I quickly started to work on a new design and a new dynamic image gallery to make things easier on myself. But, between my new full time job and playing with the car I wasn’t getting very far. V1.0 lasted a long time and served me well but was badly in need of a makeover…hence the beta site…

Beta Site:

This was the beta site that actually never made it live. It featured a similar but reversed design and the image gallery was completely dynamic and super easy to update. The header of the page also rotated through pics of my car. However, I tweaked it and tweaked it but just never got it off the ground. I was learning so many new things at the time and just couldn’t settle on what I liked. It was however a good building block for V2.0 and who knows maybe V3.0 will be a spinoff of the beta site…

Version 2:

This is a spin-off of the beta site- or officially V2. Just a lot cleaner. Features include a flash intro, a dynamic image and video gallery along with random rotating images up top. I’m very happy with it. It’s already gone through its share of tweaks and additions such as a revamped database, a news section, a tech section and a fancy home page image slideshow. I’ve also moved everything over to my own server. Things are MUCH faster and easier to update now I love it! Stay tuned however, there is also more to come for V2.

Current Version:

This is the latest and greatest so far.  Basically all the bells and whistles from the last version just a fresher design.  I hope to continue to bring new tech articles and of course pics and vids.
